Important Info - Causes of Pedestrian Accidents
There are various causes of pedestrian accidents that can be avoided on both sides. Some of them include pedestrians and/or drivers blatantly ignoring the rules of traffic. The pedestrians are required to stop at a red light and not jaywalk (going against the red light).
Some of the causes of pedestrian accidents are caused by drivers. They will drive without paying attention to the road and what's in front of them. Some of them will not give the pedestrians the right of way when it's their turn to cross the street. There are others who will whip through just to beat a red light and end up hitting a pedestrian in the process.
Other causes of pedestrian accidents include drivers who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol. When they are under the influence, their mind is impaired and they don't know what they are doing. They are so high off drugs or alcohol that they could care less if they are running a red light. Then if a pedestrian is crossing at the same time, they could be hit. Sometimes those accidents end up being fatal for one or both parties.
Hit-and-run car accidents are another cause of pedestrian accidents. The driver does not stop after a car accident. Instead, they keep going after they have hit the pedestrian. Or the driver may stop quickly and then continue on their way. Both of those scenarios are considered to be hit-and-run accidents. By law, a driver that hits a person, regardless of fault, it supposed to stop.
Other causes of pedestrian accidents include drivers not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign. When drivers come to a stop sign, they must come to a complete stop. A complete stop means that no part of the vehicle is moving. Once they have stopped, look for other vehicles on the left, right and across the street.
After it is clear, the driver can drive through the intersection. The driver will have covered all of the bases and will have prevented hitting a pedestrian. Sometimes pedestrians (small children) will run out in the street, not paying attention to the vehicles coming down the road. That is why it is crucial that drivers stop and look both ways plus directly across from them.
If you or a loved one has been injured while walking, you should discuss your personal injury case with a skilled car and pedestrian accident attorney.
